Are you a medical or dental student who is planning an elective project abroad and are in need of funding?
The BMDST-RSM Advisory Board are awarding elective funding, usually between £500 to £1000, to successful applicants who want to undertake a specific project on their medical elective.
The BMDST-RSM Student Elective Awards are open to medical and dental students of UK and other EU medical and dental schools.
We’re looking for well-presented applications, outlining an elective attachment that is based on or includes an element of research (for example, basic research, clinical research or quality improvement, etc.). Often, the projects are small, designed by and for the student but they may also be participation in a larger ongoing research project.
Simple clinical attachments/observations are unlikely to be successful.
The application form will ask you to include a proposal of no more than 700 words, which should include the following:
You can submit an application at any time, providing your elective will take place within the current or next academic year. Applications will be reviewed twice annually:
Results will be shared with applicants within 10 weeks after the submission deadline.

These letters will need to be attached to the application at the time of submission. Incomplete applications or failure to send required documentation will result in the application being automatically rejected.
After you have applied
All applications are reviewed, scored and accepted or rejected by the BMDST-RSM Student Elective Advisory Board and their decision is final. Successful applicants will be notified within ten weeks of the closing date.
All successful applicants are required to submit a report of their elective project within 30 days of their return.
The RSM accepts no responsibility for the elective itself, or the work associated with it. By confirming your elective and providing a recommendation, your elective supervisor assumes responsibility.
