Getting started with the digital library

Attend a short tutorial introducing you to the RSM's digital library, the Library Search Hub. Whether you’re new to the RSM or just need a refresher, you’ll learn how to get the most out of the Library’s search tools and extensive e-resources available to you as a member.

How to carry out an effective literature search in Medline and Embase

Find out how to search the Medline and Embase databases using both keywords and thesaurus terms to get the best results. Learn how to formulate a search question, search the databases with precision, review and save your results, and follow through to view the full-text results in the RSM’s digital library.

After attending this course, you will be able to:

  • Devise a search strategy and identify keywords and thesaurus terms to describe concepts
  • Combine search terms and use techniques such as truncation, proximity searching, exploding terms and applying qualifiers
  • Apply limits to refine your search results
  • View, select and save your search results
  • Find the full-text of articles in the RSM’s digital library

From conducting a systematic review, drafting your research paper, and choosing the right journal to publish in, step-by-step tutorials guide you through the scholarly publishing process.
