Recognising our volunteers’ impact this Volunteers’ Week

As a registered charity in the UK, the RSM thrives on the commitment, insight and generosity of many volunteers to help deliver its charitable mission: to advance health through education of healthcare professionals.

During Volunteers’ Week 2025 (2–9 June), we're taking the opportunity to highlight the important role that volunteers play in our work. Whether contributing to the governance of the charity, shaping our education and training programme, or supporting the conservation of our heritage collections, our volunteer members are central to all we do.

Michele Acton, RSM Chief Executive, thanked our volunteers to mark the week:

“This Volunteers' Week, I want to express my heartfelt gratitude to the many individuals who generously give their time and expertise to support the RSM. Your contributions are vital in helping us realise our vision of better healthcare for better lives.

"From the Trustees who form the RSM's Council, to the dedicated medical and healthcare experts who shape and deliver our education and training across more than 50 medical specialty Sections, to those who support the vital conservation work of our Library and its collections and to all of our members for your continued support — your contributions underpin our charitable purpose and enhance all we do towards the advancement of healthcare.

"On behalf of the RSM, thank you for your unwavering commitment.”

Michele Acton, RSM Chief Executive

Volunteers contribute across the Society in many different ways:

  • Council Trustees and other committee members play a key role in overseeing the strategic direction and governance of the RSM.

  • Section Council members, drawn from across the medical and healthcare professions, help to plan and deliver the Society’s respected programme of education and training.

  • Library volunteers support the care and conservation of one of the most important medical collections in the UK.

  • RSM members, through active engagement and sharing of knowledge, also help sustain a vibrant, cross-disciplinary community committed to improving healthcare.

To all who volunteer with our charity - thank you. Your support ensures we can continue to deliver high-quality education, foster collaboration across specialties, and promote innovation in healthcare.
