About this section

The Trainees Section’s purpose is to run a full calendar of events aimed at trainees as well as several meetings supporting students and their studies. Meetings cover a variety of activities and opportunities allowing trainees to learn and develop their future careers.

Doctors for the NHS Essay Prize

Doctors for the NHS are offering a prize of £500 for the best essay with the title: “If I was the Minister of Health...”

Prize: First prize £500; second prize £200
The winning essay will also have the opportunity to be published in the JRSM, subject to editorial approval.

Application guidelines: Essays should be under 2000 words

Deadline for submissions: Friday 31 July 2020

Trainees Section: John Glyn Trainees Audit Prize


  • First prize for oral presentation: £250

Trainees working in any hospital or primary care specialty.

Application guidelines

Submit a 200-word abstract describing an audit project that was undertaken during your training. The abstract should include the objective, methods used and results, discussion topics and conclusion. Applicants must be the primary authors of the original project.

Shortlisted applicants will be invited to present their abstract as an oral or poster presentation at the Trainees meeting taking place on 29 September 2021.

Application guidelines

Submit a 500-word outline of your idea for a book proposal. If the idea is shortlisted it will be presented to an expert ‘Dragon’s Den’ panel that will know nothing of the idea on the day and will judge whether they wish to accept or decline the proposal.

The winner will be decided at the event, considering the opinions of the judges and the audience.
