Professor Anthony C Davies will look at the historical development of surface to air missiles in this lecture.

Professor Davies will outline the names, types, mode of operation, and methods of avoiding them to understand the present status and likely future. The talk will be illustrated by many photos explaining their operation, but no practical demonstrations are intended.

The talk aims to enable the audience to better understand reports they may see in the media. A brief mention of what may be expected in the future may be included (such as Directed Energy Weapons).
