Born Rainham, Kent, 1936, Military service: British Army, Royal Electrical and Mechanical Engineers (1955-7), trained as Telecommunications Mechanic, and the last year as a Leading Artisan Sergeant. B.Sc(Eng) Electrical Engineering, 1st Class Hons (1963) Southampton University, MPhil (1967) the University of London, PhD (1970) City University London. General Electric Co. in Coventry (1961-63): Lecturer (1963), Reader (1970) and Professor and Director, Centre for Information Engineering (1982) at City University London. Professor, Department of Electronic Engineering, King’s College London (1990-9). Lecturer, University of British Columbia (1968-9); Visiting Full Professor, Purdue University (1973-4); Royal Society Fellowship, British Aerospace, Army Weapons Division, Stevenage (1987-8). Short course teaching including courses on microprocessors for George Washington University in London, Berlin and Washington DC (1979-1981); Consultant to Admiralty Underwater Weapons Establishment, Portland, Dorset. Former Visiting Professor (from 2002) and now a member of Industry Advisory Board, Kingston University, Surrey, England. Fellow IET, Life Fellow IEEE, Member BCS, Chartered Engineer.
