Sir Michael Rawlins, Chair of the MHRA, will interview Professor Stuart Ralston, Chair of the Commission on Human Medicines, about potential treatment options for the COVID-19 virus.

The webinar will cover the evidence surrounding the drugs and other therapies proposed as treatment options for COVID-19, drug-related concerns around coronavirus, and the randomised clinical trials that are currently underway.

Speaker's biography

Sir Michael is chairman of the Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency (MHRA). He is a clinical pharmacologist and specialist in internal medicine. He was professor of clinical pharmacology in Newcastle, and physician at the Newcastle Hospitals from 1999-2006.


He was chairman of the Committee on Safety of Medicines, chairman of the Advisory Council on the Misuse of Drugs and founding chairman of the National Institute for Clinical Excellence (NICE). He is a past president of the Royal Society of Medicine.

Speaker's biography

Professor Stuart Ralston is an Arthritis Research UK Professor of Rheumatology at the Centre for Genomic and Experimental Medicine at the Institute of Genetics and Molecular Medicine at the University of Edinburgh. He holds an honorary consultant rheumatologist position with NHS Lothian where he is clinical lead for the osteoporosis service and clinical director of the rheumatology service. He currently chairs the Commission on Human Medicines for the MHRA.
