Explore the multifaceted realities of life after a cancer diagnosis at our 2024 The London Clinic Lecture. This free, public lecture will cover the management of some of the long-term effects of cancer on those living with and beyond a diagnosis, including effective chronic pain management strategies, the psychological impact on both patients and families, and the potential benefits of palliative care.

We are also pleased to invite you to a stay for a complimentary drinks reception following the event.

Speaker's biography

Professor Andrew Davies was an undergraduate at St. George’s Hospital Medical School in London, and initially trained in general medicine (and clinical oncology), before specialising in Palliative Medicine. His previous academic appointments were at the University of Bristol, Imperial College London, and the University of Surrey: the related consultant (clinical) positions were at Bristol Haematology & Oncology Centre, the Royal Marsden Hospital, and the Royal Surrey County Hospital / St. Luke’s Cancer Centre. His current research interests include cancer survivorship, and the role of specialist palliative care teams in the management of unmet needs in different cohorts of cancer survivors.

Speaker's biography

Professor Richard Langford is the Pain Service Lead Consultant at The London Clinic.

He was the founding director of the Pain and Anaesthesia Research Centre for 25 years at Barts Health NHS Trust. He also served as Deputy Director of Research and Development, and held Clinical Directorships of the Joint Hospital and Medical School Clinical Research Centre and of the Anaesthetics and Critical Care Directorate.

Professor Langford was President of the British Pain Society 2010-13, and Council Member of the European Pain Federation. In 2000, he founded the Barts Medical Simulation Centre, and has also served as Royal College of Anaesthetists Regional Advisor.

His research has focused on acute and chronic pain, and biomedical engineering with over 200 peer reviewed publications.

Speaker's biography

Dr Greg Shields is a consultant general adult and liaison psychiatrist with a practice focusing on oncology, palliative care, and the mental health of people with serous or life-threatening illness. He is currently the lead psychiatrist at the Kings College Hospital Cancer Psychological Care Team.
