Lord Sumption is often described as the cleverest man in Britain with courtroom talents that have been defined as “amazing”, “brilliant”, “a frightening opponent”, “icy analytical instinct”, and “titanic”. He has represented many high-profile cases during his career including; representing billionaire oligarch Roman Abramovich and the Hutton inquiry.
Last year, Lord Sumption did the 2019 BBC Reith lectures - a series of lectures from significant international thinkers who deliver the BBC's flagship annual lecture series. He did 5 podcasts for the lecture series highlighting areas of the legal system such as; law and politics, democracy and opposing opinions, the interpretation of human rights law, the pros and cons of written and unwritten constitutions, and the cons of Britain adopting a written constitution. He has written several books of Medieval history including The Age of Pilgrimage, the Albigensian Crusade, and four books on the Hundred Years War, the third of which, Divided Houses, won the 2009 Wolfson History Prize.
