His journeys have taken him across the world, including the North and South Poles (1992), Asia, Oceania and the Americas (1997), United States, Europe, Africa and the Caribbean (1999), the Sahara Desert (2002), the Himalayas (2004), Central and Eastern Europe (2007), Brazil (2012), and North Korea (2018).
Sir Michael is very involved in charity work and was instrumental in setting up The Michael Palin Centre for Stammering Children in 1993, an official Patron of Freedom from Torture and a supporter of Book Aid International.
