About this event

  • Date and time Sat 15 Jul 2023 from 9:00am to 5:00pm
  • Location Online
  • Organised by Paediatrics and Child Health

Palliative care is an incredibly important area of medicine, and we currently are not meeting NICE quality standards in providing all children with life-limiting and life-threatening conditions appropriate care at the end of their life.

By upskilling paediatric trainees, we can begin to address this gap in service and improve the general paediatrician's confidence in approaching children with life-limiting and life-threatening conditions.

So join us for this meeting to improve your understanding, knowledge and skills to approach commonly encountered issues in paediatric palliative care, so you can confidently approach palliative patients and their families.

By attending, you will:

  • Understand which patients should be referred to palliative care and when
  • Recognise, assess, and manage a range of symptoms in palliative patients including emergencies, both pharmacological and non-pharmacological
  • Develop understanding of how to communicate with patients and their families
  • Understand the patient/family perspective of paediatric palliative care
  • Develop knowledge about perinatal and neonatal palliative care
  • Gain a further understanding about the post-death process and bereavement support
  • Appreciate the ethical complexity involved in palliative care

The event recording will be available for registered event participants up to 60 days after the day via Zoom.

This event is also available to attend in person on Wednesday 12 July 2023. Please click here to book the in-person event
