Join the fourteenth edition of Future Orthopaedic Surgeons Conference (FOSC), the international trauma and orthopaedic surgery conference, for a full day of learning with academic lectures covering four key topics, poster presentations, and cutting-edge practical workshops focused on the latest updates on orthopaedic training aimed at junior doctors and medical students. Predominantly an in-person event, virtual participants will be welcomed for the morning talks only. This event is designed specifically for students and trainees.

In the morning: Academic lectures will feature 10-minute presentations covering orthopaedic subspecialties, diversity, career paths, and application tips, aiming to promote the field to junior doctors and trainees. During the lunch, candidates for the FOSC prize for research will present their work, which experts will review for academic rigour and presentation skills.

In the afternoon: Consisting of a circuit of practical workshops, they will teach the core skills required as an orthopaedic surgeon: Intramedullary nailing, Dynamic Hip Screw, Open-reduction Internal Fixation and External Fixation. The workshops will be delivered via small group teaching sessions and run by current orthopaedic trainees. Please note that the afternoon workshops will not be available to watch for virtual participants.

This new edition of FOSC aims to:

  • Provide attendees with an awareness of different orthopaedic subspecialties
  • Educate on the changing face of orthopaedics and promote diversity among trainees applying for core and speciality training
  • Inform on the range of career paths available to orthopaedic surgeons including portfolio careers and academic orthopaedics
  • Improve the understanding of core and specialty training selection pathways and how to improve one’s CV to increase the chances of a successful job application
  • Develop the presentation and critical appraisal skills of participants
