About this event

  • Date and time Mon 9 Mar 2026 from 10:00am to 4:00pm
  • Location Online
  • Organised by Medicine and Me, Maternity and the Newborn Forum, Mummy's Star

Join the RSM for a one-day, virtual meeting exploring how cancer diagnosed during pregnancy, postnatally or around pregnancy loss affects patients, families and healthcare professionals. This event is delivered in collaboration with Mummy's Star and the Maternity and Newborn Forum online.

The programme recognises the significant emotional impact that cancer in and around pregnancy has not only on patients and families, but also on the healthcare professionals supporting them through diagnosis, treatment, loss and recovery. Sessions will be underpinned by the latest international FIGO guidance on cancer and pregnancy, supporting clinicians to align practice with current evidence and standards of care.

By bringing together clinical expertise, patient voices and shared learning, this meeting aims to improve care, choice and outcomes for families affected by cancer in and around pregnancy. Through clinical expertise and patient testimony, the day follows the journey from symptom recognition and referral, through coordinated maternal medicine care, delivery planning, postnatal support and future fertility considerations.

A cancer diagnosis during pregnancy, following pregnancy loss or in the postnatal period presents complex clinical, emotional and ethical challenges for all involved. Early symptoms can be difficult to recognise, care pathways are often unfamiliar, and families may face difficult decisions at a highly vulnerable time. This meeting creates space to improve shared understanding across professions, strengthen coordination of care and ensure choice, safety and compassionate support remain central throughout the patient journey.

Aims of the meeting:

  • To broaden awareness and understanding of cancer in and around pregnancy across healthcare professions.
  • To improve recognition of symptoms, referral pathways and coordinated care models, including the role of Maternal Medicine Networks.
  • To support healthcare professionals in delivering compassionate, informed care that maintains patient choice and family-centred decision-making.
