About this event

  • Date and time Thu 22 Aug 2024 from 1:00pm to 4:30pm
  • Location Online
  • Organised by Medicine and Me, Bowel Research UK

Jointly organised with Bowel Research UK, the Big Bowel Event 2024 brings together patients, members of the public and researchers to explore current research into bowel cancer and bowel disease during this half-day webinar.

As Bowel Research UK supports research into a wide range of bowel diseases and conditions, including bowel cancer, inflammatory bowel disease, diverticular disease and more, the Big Bowel Event aims to reflect this variety. This online conference features talks from researchers and those with lived experience of diverticular disease, the gut microbiome, and surgical & interventional science, including robotic surgery and interventions for faecal incontinence.

Each hour-long session includes talks from two researchers on their respective studies, as well as a patient or expert by experience who will tell the story of their diagnosis, treatment and living with or beyond their condition. Research studies discussed will include AMELIE (Anchored Muscle Cells for Incontinence) and the Diverticular Disease Priority Setting Partnership, a project jointly run by Guts UK and Bowel Research UK.

Participants will learn about developments within these bowel disease areas, with the opportunity to ask questions and discover how they can get involved in research to work towards better treatments and cures.

By attending this meeting, you will gain:

  • Knowledge of current research around bowel cancer and bowel disease and newer technologies and interventions including robotic surgery
  • Improved understanding of bowel conditions including diverticular disease
  • Recognition of the importance of the gut microbiome
  • Insight into the experiences of those living with and beyond different bowel diseases
