This event will teach doctors various aspects of diagnosis, decision making and treatment of dysphagia via the Laryngology & Rhinology Section Presidential address and The RSM Visiting Professor lecture. 

Due to current government restrictions, the booking capacity of this in-person event is limited. 

Mr Guri Sandhu the Laryngology and Rhinology Section President will discuss the resurgence of British laryngology over the last decade. And the Visiting Professor Lecture will be given by Professor GregoryPostma, Augusta University, Atlanta, USA, who will discuss the latest development in dysphagia management.

Mr Guri Sandhu

President, Laryngology and Rhinology Section, The Royal Society of Medicine

Speaker's biography

Mr Guri Sandhu is a Consultant Laryngologist and Head & Neck Surgeon who practises at Charing Cross, The Royal Brompton and Chelsea and Westminster Hospitals in London. He is an Honorary Senior Lecturer at Imperial College and University College London. Mr Sandhu trained in ENT in several London hospitals including The Royal National Throat Nose and Ear, Great Ormond Street and Charing Cross. He is a leading authority in voice, swallowing and airway problems. His honours include President of the British Laryngological Association, Honorary Fellow at the Royal Academy of Music, ENT Surgeon to The Royal Society of Musicians and the only British ENT surgeon to be made fellow of the American Laryngological Association.

 

Mr Sandhu will be delivering his Presidential address ‘The Resurgence of British Laryngology’ for The Section of Laryngology and Rhinology. He will discuss his journey to becoming a consultant ENT surgeon, his contributions to the field of Laryngology, sharing knowledge and lessons learnt and the management of interesting cases.

Professor Gregory Postma

Professor and Vice-Chairman of the Department Otolaryngology and Director of the Center for Voice, Airway and Swallowing Disorders, Augusta University, Atlanta, USA

Professor Postma will be giving their lecture virtually. 

Speaker's biography

Dr Gregory Postma is a Professor and Vice-Chairman of the Department of Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery at the Medical College of Georgia at Augusta University and is the Director of the Center for Voice, Airway and Swallowing Disorders since 2005. 

 

He completed his residency in Otolaryngology at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill in 1993. He completed a fellowship in laryngology and professional voice at Vanderbilt University and joined the faculty at Wake Forest in 1996. 

 

He is a past President of both the American Esophagological Society (ABEA) and the Dysphagia Research Society. 

 

He is the author or co-author of more than 110 peer-reviewed publications, edited 3 books, and has written 70 chapters and invited articles. He has given more than 700 presentations on a wide array of laryngologic topics. He has been selected as one of America’s Top Doctors, a reference that identifies the top 1% of physicians in the nation, for the past twenty years.
