This year’s Hackathon is a collaboration between BAPRAS, the Boston Consulting Group (BCG) and the Patient Safety Section at the Royal Society of Medicine.

This free weekend meeting will bring together clinicians, management consultants, engineers, designers and entrepreneurs. In small teams, delegates will work together to devise innovative ways to prevent never events - serious clinical incidents that should never happen to any patient.

The weekend will close with teams pitching their solutions and prototypes to a panel of judges, including Senior Clinicians and BCG Healthcare Partners. The team that is deemed to have presented the most innovative solution that is likely to improve patient safety will receive a significant seed investment.

What is a Hackathon?

A hackathon is a team based event that started in the tech world of Silicon Valley. During the event teams are created that compose of members from multiple backgrounds (clinicians, designers, engineers, entrepreneurs etc.). Think of it as the ultimate Innovation MDT. Over the event each team tries to create the best solution for the chosen problem, which they present as a pitch to the panel of judges.

topics include:

  • Be able to work effectively in diverse multi-disciplinary groups to maximise solutions
  • How to identify pitfalls and weaknesses, and find solutions to preventing never events
