Dr David Wood will update you about Cardiovascular Drug Toxicity: 

• Understand the antidotes used in the management of calcium channel and beta-blocker overdoses
• Describe the approach to the use of those antidotes in the management of calcium channel and beta-blocker overdose
• Discuss the indications for use of Intralipid in severe cardiovascular toxicity

Prof Paul Dargan will update you about Recreational Drug and NPS Toxicity:

• Understand the prevalence of use of different types of recreational drugs/NPS
• Describe the different types of toxicity related to the use of recreational drugs/NPS
• Discuss the long-term harms and dependence associated with certain recreational drugs/NPS

This webinar will cover core FFICM competencies required by Intensive Care Medicine trainees.

Speaker's biography

Dr David Wood is a Consultant Physician and Clinical Toxicologist at the Trust and Reader in Clinical Toxicology at King’s College London.  He has a clinical, research and academic interest in epidemiology of use of and acute harms related to recreational drugs, new psychoactive substances (NPS) and misused prescription medicines, the management of paracetamol overdose and cardiovascular drug toxicity. He is a member of the UK Advisory Council on the Misuse of Drugs (ACMD) and expert advisor to the European Monitoring Centre for Drugs and Drug Addiction (ECMDDA), World Health Organisation and United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) in the area of recreational drugs and NPS.

Speaker's biography

Professor Paul Dargan is a Consultant Physician and Clinical Toxicologist at Guy’s and St Thomas’ NHS Foundation Trust and Professor of Clinical Toxicology at King’s College London. He has an active research and teaching programme with a focus on recreational drug toxicity, new psychoactive substances, prescription medicine misuse, self-poisoning and heavy metal toxicity. He has published over 320 peer-reviewed papers and numerous book chapters. He is an advisor to numerous national and international bodies.
