This is a training morning for cardiology trainees covering the General Cardiology “Heart Disease in Pregnancy syllabus.

This webinar will explore different approaches to managing pregnant women with cardiac disease. It will provide delegates with an understanding of the issues around their care and specific cardiac condition-associated risks.  

During this webinar you will:

  • Understand the impact of pregnancy on various cardiac conditions. 
  • Understand an approach to risk assessment. 
  • Learn the approach to safe investigation and management of women presenting with cardiac conditions in pregnancy.

This webinar meets the curriculum requirements for Cardiology trainees at ST3-7 level and will be particular interest to trainees with an interest in Intervention and those undertaking subspecialty training in Intervention. 

A CPD certificate with CPD credit will be issued to those joining the webinar live as well as those who watch the recording afterwards. Certificates will be issued 7 days after the webinar to those who watch it live and after 30 days for those that watch the recording.

Dr Cathy Head is a Consultant cardiologist ACHD and maternal cardiology. She is the President of the UK Maternal cardiology Society. She also is a MBRRACE UK cardiology assessor.

Speaker's biography

Dr Lorna Swan has recently joined the Scottish Adult Congenital Cardiac Service at the Golden Jubilee Hospital in Glasgow. Over the last 15 years she has worked at two of the largest ACHD units in the world – the Toronto Congenital Cardiac Centre for Adults and the Royal Brompton Hospital ACHD unit. Her sub-specialist interests include cardio-obstetrics.

Dr Dawn Adamson

Speaker's biography


Dawn Adamson is an interventional cardiologist whom also specialises in obstetric cardiology and Adult Congenital Heart Disease.  She is also Associate Medical Director for Clinical Governance and safety at the University Hospital of Coventry and Warwickshire.   Having completed general medical training, she went on to gain a PhD in cardiac physiology at the National Heart and Lung Institute, Imperial College.  During this time she was the registrar for Professor Somerville and developed an interest in ACHD which has continued.  She remained in London for her specialist registrar training and worked at the Royal Brompton, St Mary’s and Hammersmith Hospitals.   Whilst in her second year of training, under the mentorship of Prof Roger Hall, she became interested in the management of heart disease in pregnancy and extended her training in order to join Prof Cathy Nelson-Piercy in Queen Charlottes one day a week.  She went on to be awarded an Interventional Fellowship at the Hammersmith hospital before taking up a joint consultant post with Queen Charlottes.  Following this she has now moved to the University Hospital of Coventry and Warwickshire where she has a busy interventional, obstetric cardiology practice and ACHD practice.  She has lectured both nationally and internationally on the subjects and has written the Oxford Handbook of Heart Disease in pregnancy.
