Joining the RSM as a Young Fellow

Become a Young Fellow of the RSM and we will provide you with support throughout your medical career development through our membership and services, plus you will become a valued part of our network of medical students, trainees, consultants and senior medical professionals.

Young Fellowship is open to those medically qualified up to St8 job role (or worked for up to 10 years). The RSM understands the financial circumstances of trainees so has a graduated subscription rate to reflect this. Membership for Foundation Doctors starts at just £94. Membership for StR1 (or worked up to 3 years) and StR2 (or worked up to 4 years) starts at £176, with StR3 (or worked up to 5 years) - StR8 (or worked up to 10 years) starting at £288. There is a £35 joining fee when you first apply.

Support for continuing professional development


The RSM runs one of the most extensive programmes of post-graduate educational conferences in the UK – nearly all with CPD accreditation:

  • over 400 meetings each year
  • spanning 56 medical specialties and areas of interest
  • highly preferential rates for members (sometimes free).

The RSM's Trainees' Committee provides extensive and relevant training opportunities. Designed by trainees for trainees, these meetings cover:

  • teaching skills
  • specialty applications
  • leadership and management.

Prizes and awards


The RSM organises over 70 awards and prizes worth over £60,000 each year:

  • prestigious awards offer opportunities to enhance CVs
  • Ellison-Cliffe Travelling Fellowships worth £30,000
  • all winners offered entry to RSM Wesleyan Trainee of the Year award with £3,000 cash first prize.

price and eligibility

The price of Young Fellowship is £94 - £328 (includes an element of VAT*) and is open to those medically qualified up to St8 job role (or worked for up to 10 years); or those with dental or veterinary first qualification obtained within last 10 years (Young Fellowship is open only to those resident in the UK or Republic of Ireland)

For oral surgeons holding both medical and dental degrees, the 10 year period is counted from the later qualification. Young Fellowship applies up to the tenth anniversary of the first medical, dental or veterinary qualification.
