Professor Axford is a consultant in adult and paediatric rheumatology and Professor of Clinical Rheumatology at St George’s, University of London. He has worked for over 30 years within the NHS.
At St George’s, he was responsible for the creation of the Sir Joseph Hotung Centre for Musculoskeletal Disorders, where he directs the provision of clinical and basic scientific research, clinical care and both undergraduate and postgraduate education.
His specialist interests include all aspects of musculoskeletal disease, joint and back pain, and autoimmune inflammatory diseases such as rheumatoid arthritis and lupus.
He is the founding director of the London Rheumatology Clinic. He works closely with the British Society of Rheumatology and has been the Vice Chair of the Education and Training Committee. John has also served on the Council at St George’s; he has been associated with the Royal Society of Medicine for over 20 years, having served on Council as a Trustee and as Honorary Secretary.
