Biology of ageing part II

Older people now represent a significant segment of the population and are particularly vulnerable to a number of diseases. This meeting aims to outline some aspects of the current understanding of the ageing process; the impact of ageing on health, and the presentation of diseases in older people.

Non-malignant pain in older people

The meeting will explore the complexities of chronic, non-malignant pain in older people, drawing on expertise from medicine, nursing and psychology to explain why pain is different in older people, and why different approaches to treatment are needed.

Application guidelines

Submit a 5,000-word essay on any aspect of ageing.

The winner will be required to present their essay at a geriatrics and gerontology meeting.

Submit a 3,000-word essay on any aspect of ageing or the health and care of older people.

Geriatrics & Gerontology Section: Trainees’ Prize – Clinical Presentation

Prize

  • First prize: £100 for best oral presentation
  • Second prize: £50 for best poster presentation

Open to

Trainees in elderly medicine or old age psychiatry.

Application guidelines

Submit a 250-word abstract on a case presentation in a clinical context which demonstrates difficult diagnostic or management problems in older people.

Five shortlisted candidates will be required to present their abstract at a geriatrics and gerontology meeting. Runners up will be invited to present a poster presentation.
