Omicron, Andy Burnham, and loneliness as a mental health issue

The next episode of the RSM’s COVID-19 Series will welcome back Victoria Macdonald, Channel 4’s Health & Social Care Editor, who will be discussing with Professor Peter Openshaw and Professor John Edmunds the most pressing questions about Omicron, the newly detected variant of concern. Peter Openshaw is one of Britain’s foremost specialists on the behaviour of deadly viruses and John Edmunds is Professor of Infectious Disease Modelling at the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine.

Andy Burnham, Mayor of Greater Manchester, will join Professor Sir Simon Wessely to talk about his career, his thoughts on developing green cities and ending homelessness, and how the Manchester region is coping with COVID-19 infection rates.

The rarely discussed issue of loneliness as a mental health issue will be discussed at this event, which will explore the complexities around the prevention of loneliness in contemporary society and explore it as a historical experience.
