Dr Tom Kite is a post-CCT interventional cardiology fellow currently working at Flinders Medical Centre in Adelaide, Australia, having recently relocated there with his young family. He completed his cardiology training in the East Midlands, UK, and has published extensively in interventional cardiology. Dr Kite’s PhD research focused on the timing of invasive strategies in non-ST elevation acute coronary syndrome, resulting in high-impact publications that contributed to a reassessment and update of European Society of Cardiology guidelines. He was appointed to the prestigious Flinders fellowship following a competitive selection process overseen by the British Cardiovascular Intervention Society.

Dr Kite’s Ellison-Cliffe Travelling Fellowship will support his advanced fellowship in coronary and structural intervention at Flinders Medical Centre, a high-volume tertiary centre in South Australia renowned for pioneering work. This placement will provide hands-on experience with complex transcatheter procedures including transcatheter aortic valve implantation (TAVI), patent foramen ovale closure, left atrial appendage occlusion, and mitral and tricuspid edge-to-edge repair techniques. Additionally, he will contribute to collaborative research in structural heart disease.
“Being awarded the Ellison-Cliffe Travelling Fellowship is a great honour and a tremendous endorsement of my future ambitions. Moving to the other side of the world comes at significant expense, and the fellowship will ease some of the financial pressure, while also allowing me to access world-class training that will directly benefit patients upon my return to the UK.
“I’m deeply grateful to the Royal Society of Medicine for supporting this opportunity. The RSM has always played a central role in postgraduate education and professional development, and I’m proud to be part of a community that values clinical excellence and innovation.”
