Mr Jason Yuen is an ST8 neurosurgery resident based in Bristol. He completed a Natural Sciences degree at Cambridge before studying medicine at Oxford. Following this, he began his neurosurgical training in the Southwest of England. Jason also spent two years conducting research with Professor Kendall Lee at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, USA, where he deepened his interests in functional neurosurgery. He is now preparing for a fellowship in Stereotactic and Functional Neurosurgery, during which he will relocate with his young family to Toronto.
Mr Jason Yuen
Jason will use the Ellison-Cliffe Travelling Fellowship to enhance both his technical and research skills in functional neurosurgery. He is particularly eager to learn from world-leading experts, including Professor Andres Lozano, a pioneer in the field. This opportunity will allow him to engage with cutting-edge clinical techniques and deliver advanced care to patients, especially those suffering from neuropsychiatric conditions such as depression and obsessive-compulsive disorder.
“I am extremely grateful to the Ellison-Cliffe fellowship selection committee for awarding me this prestigious award. The generous support from the Fellowship will allow me to make the most out of my overseas experience and attend high-yield educational events. I will endeavour to engage fully in learning the cutting-edge clinical techniques from my mentors and deliver the best possible care to my future patients, particularly in the treatment of neuropsychiatric diseases, such as depression and obsessive-compulsive disorder.
“While the financial support from the Ellison-Cliffe Fellowship will be of great help to me and my family during my training in Toronto, it is impossible to put a price tag on the prestige of receiving the award. The Fellowship has a long history of providing support to driven early-career physicians to acquire invaluable medical skills, many of whom would become leaders in their field. Joining this community of Fellowship awardees is a true honour. I am confident that the experience will not only further my career interests but also improve treatment options and outcomes for my patients.”
