Mr Amir Saam Youshani

Mr Amir Saam Youshani completed his neurosurgery training in the North-West Deanery (Salford, Manchester, and Preston). As an ST8, he undertook a Neurosurgery-Oncology Fellowship at the Walton Centre, Liverpool, in 2024/25 and was awarded his Certificate of Completion of Training (CCT) in June 2025. He began an international epilepsy neurosurgery fellowship at the London Health Sciences Centre (LHSC) in London, Ontario, Canada, on 1 July 2025.

Mr Amir Saam Youshani

Saam completed a basic science PhD in 2018 at the University of Manchester, during which he was awarded a Royal College of Surgeons (RCS) Clinical Research Fellowship. He subsequently completed a National Institute for Health and Care Research (NIHR) Academic Clinical Lectureship in 2024, focusing on cellular senescence in high-grade gliomas and tumour-related epilepsy in low-grade gliomas. Alongside his clinical and research work, Saam has a strong interest in leadership. He holds a Postgraduate Certificate in Medical Leadership and is currently undertaking an Association of Surgeons in Training (ASiT) Leadership Fellowship with the Future Leaders Programme at the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh.

He has been awarded a competitive Complex Epilepsy Neurosurgery Fellowship at LHSC, one of the highest-volume centres in North America. This fellowship will provide comprehensive exposure to the entire patient pathway, including diagnostic investigations, complex multidisciplinary decision-making, and advanced surgical techniques such as robotic surgery, neurostimulation procedures, and Laser Interstitial Thermal Therapy (LITT). As Canada’s largest epilepsy centre, LHSC will offer Saam a unique opportunity to manage complex epilepsy cases from around the world and contribute to world-class research.

“I am deeply honoured to receive the RSM Ellison-Cliffe award and incredibly grateful for the opportunity to use this fellowship towards my educational objectives. Spending a year working at an international specialised epilepsy centre will provide unique exposure to the latest technology, surgical skills, and research. Most importantly, I will help patients suffering from epilepsy and epilepsy-related pathologies. I hope to maximise my experience abroad for downstream application towards developing an epilepsy-oncology surgery programme in the UK. Thank you once again to the RSM, the Ellison-Cliffe Charitable Trust, and the Ellison-Cliffe family.”
