According to HSJ, the number of Covid positive patients in English hospitals on 5 October had increased by 97 percent over the previous two weeks, with Covid positive patients filling approximately one in 10 NHS general acute beds.

The rate of increase, reported HSJ, is significantly higher than in the last Covid wave during June and July.
