Increase your understanding and knowledge of novel and innovative methods in nerve surgery, also known as targeted muscle reinnervation (TMR), and the management of phantom pain as well as functional prostheses. There will also be a focus on the future of plastic surgery via cybernetics.

This hybrid event provides a cutting-edge learning experience and will bring together a variety of experts from different medical fields, sub-specialties, and faculties to discuss these fascinating subjects that otherwise are seldom highlighted anywhere in the world.  

This hybrid event will help you:   

  • Understand the upcoming targeted muscle reinnervation (TMR) techniques and their clinical application in both plastic and orthopaedic surgery
  • Be able to apply these concepts in the management of difficult clinical situations e.g. neuromas etc.

Speaker's biography

Dr Harvey W. Chim, MD, FACS, is a professor in the division of plastic and reconstructive surgery at the University of Florida College of Medicine.

 

Dr Chim completed a plastic surgery residency at Case Western Reserve University in Cleveland and a fellowship in hand and microsurgery at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota. He is board certified through the American Board of Plastic Surgery with a Certificate of Added Qualification in Surgery of the Hand. He serves as an associate editor for the Journal of Hand Surgery (American Volume) and HAND journal.

 

His clinical interests include upper and lower extremity limb salvage as well as brachial plexus and complex peripheral nerve reconstruction. The amputee clinic at the University of Florida serves a wide geographic area, covering Florida and South Georgia with a focus on nerve surgeries including targeted muscle reinnervation (TMR).

Speaker's biography

Paul S. Cederna, M.D. specialises in reconstruction of complex wounds. By combining his clinical training in general surgery, microsurgery, and plastic surgery and background in biomedical engineering, he is able to incorporate creative solutions with technically challenging operations to solve the most difficult problems resulting from trauma, cancer, or burns.

 

Academically, Dr Cederna has a very active research enterprise directing the Neuromuscular Research Laboratory at the University of Michigan. Dr Cederna has received over $31,000,000 in direct research funding, authored over 365 scientific manuscripts, published 31 book chapters, presented his work over 850 times at national and international meetings, and has been asked to give over 450 extramural presentations. He has mentored 65 students, 45 research fellows, and 17 postdoctoral fellows from various backgrounds including biomedical engineering and physiology. He has received over 71 national research awards either as first author or mentor of the reseach work. Dr Cederna has been the Chairman of the American Board of Plastic Surgery, Chairman of the Plastic Surgery Research Council, President of the American Society for Peripheral Nerve, President of the Michigan Academy of Plastic Surgeons, and President for the Plastic Surgery Foundation.
