About this event

  • Date and time Thu 3 Sep 2026 from 6:00pm to 8:30pm
  • Location Royal Society of Medicine

Join the Royal Society of Medicine (RSM) for an honest and personal evening with Dr Puja Khajuria, a doctor whose career has been shaped by the pressures, losses and uncertainties that define modern medicine. Through a fireside conversation chaired by Professor Gillan Leng CBE, audience Q&A and an exclusive networking reception with Dr Khajuria, this in-person event explores resilience, career uncertainty and finding fulfilment in healthcare today.

NHS workforce pressures continue to affect clinicians at every stage of training and practice, with retention and staff wellbeing remaining key priorities. Many resident doctors are reconsidering traditional career pathways and seeking greater flexibility, while healthcare professionals across the NHS continue to look for sustainable ways to maintain both career satisfaction and personal wellbeing. The NHS 10 Year Plan places renewed emphasis on recruitment, retention and staff experience.

Speaker's biography

Dr Khajuria is a 32 year old Anaesthetic Trainee in Hertfordshire. She qualified in 2018 from Barts and the London and worked in emergency medicine during and after the pandemic. After a traumatic period, losing her father to COVID, and navigating bereavement, she eventually settled into her career in anaesthetics.

She has always had a love for travel, inspired by her adventurous father. Having been given the wider perspective of life through repeated trauma during the pandemic, she applied to pursue her lifelong dream of competing in Race Across the World. In 2025, that dream became a reality, with eight weeks off work, no phone, no plan, and pure adventure.
