About this event

  • Date and time Tue 19 Jan 2027 from 8:15am to 20 Jan 2027 at 5:05pm
  • Location Royal Society of Medicine
  • Organised by Pathology, Pathological Society of Great Britain and Ireland

Join the Royal Society of Medicine (RSM) and The Pathological Society of Great Britain and Ireland (Path Soc) for a joint event exploring the challenges of knowledge discovery and the translation of new scientific insights into improvements in human health. This event brings together pathologists, scientists, active clinicians, academic resident doctors and aspiring undergraduate students for two days of stimulating education.

Through a mixture of expert-led lectures and presentations of emerging research, delegates will gain up-to-date knowledge and expand their understanding of the latest advances in disease modelling, clinical trials and clinical translation, exploring how animal models and artificial intelligence are being used to model disease, accelerate therapeutic discovery and support the development of novel treatments.

Why attend?

  • Learn from an international faculty who will share insights into how biological meaning can be derived from tissue samples and complex datasets, and translated into improved patient care.
  • Discover the latest advances in disease modelling and clinical translation, gaining an up-to-date understanding of how research findings are validated and developed into clinical practice and patient care.
  • Explore emerging research technologies and multi-modal data integration, and understand how emerging tools are transforming knowledge discovery in biomedical science.
  • Network with a diverse community of pathologists, scientists, clinicians, trainees, and students, fostering collaboration, discussion, and exposure to a broad range of perspectives in disease research and healthcare innovation.

Aims of the event:

  • To provide delegates with an overview of disease models and how they are used to investigate disease biology and alter the course of a disease through human intervention
  • To provide insight into the challenges of translating laboratory and animal data into new therapeutics and clinical impact
  • To enable delegates to learn about emerging technologies for data extraction from tissue samples
  • To showcase the best research into the molecular biology and molecular pathology of disease

Learning outcomes:

  • Evaluate the role and limitations of disease models in understanding disease mechanisms and progression.
  • Analyse current strategies for the discovery, validation, and clinical translation of new therapeutics.
  • Recognise emerging technologies in molecular pathology and their impact on disease research and patient care.

Who should attend?

  • Diagnostic and research pathologists across all disciplines in histopathology
  • Resident doctors in histopathology, both academic and non-academic
  • Scientists and researchers working in tissue-based or molecular pathology research
  • Undergraduate students involved in or considering tissue-based research
  • Clinicians and academics with an interest in disease modelling, molecular biology and clinical translation
