About this event
- Date and time Thu 10 Dec 2026 from 9:30am to 4:30pm
- Location Online
- Organised by Paediatrics and Child Health, London School of Paediatrics
Join the Royal Society of Medicine (RSM) Paediatrics & Child Health Section, in collaboration with the London School of Paediatrics, for this virtual study day on non-malignant paediatric haematology. Designed for paediatric resident doctors, the programme provides practical teaching to support clinical practice, on-call decision-making and career development.
Non-malignant haematological conditions are common in paediatric practice but often receive limited dedicated teaching. Through expert presentations and patient perspectives, delegates will explore haemoglobinopathies, neonatal haematology, bleeding disorders and transfusion medicine. They will also build confidence in assessing and managing common haematological presentations and explore careers in paediatric haematology.
Why attend?
- Hear from leading experts including Professor Irene Roberts, Dr Samah Babiker, Dr Sara Trompeter and Dr Anne Kelly
- Gain practical updates on the assessment and management of common non-malignant paediatric haematological conditions
- Develop confidence in managing haematological presentations encountered in the on-call paediatric setting
- Hear a patient perspective on living with sickle cell disease to strengthen patient-centred care
- Explore career opportunities and training pathways in paediatric haematology
Aims of the event
- Provide practical updates on the assessment and management of non-malignant paediatric haematological conditions
- Support resident doctors in developing confidence in recognising, investigating and managing common haematological presentations encountered in clinical practice
- Support career development by introducing training pathways and opportunities within paediatric haematology
Learning outcomes
By attending this study day, participants will be able to:
- Recognise and assess common non-malignant paediatric haematological presentations, identifying when urgent specialist referral is required
- Apply evidence-based principles to the investigation and initial management of common paediatric haematological conditions encountered in acute and on-call settings
- Interpret common haematological investigations, including full blood counts, blood films and coagulation studies, to support clinical decision-making
- Demonstrate awareness of the lived experience of children with chronic haematological conditions and apply this understanding to patient-centred communication, multidisciplinary working and transition planning
- Identify training pathways and career opportunities within paediatric haematology
Who should attend?
This study day is suitable for:
- Paediatric resident doctors
- Resident doctors with an interest in paediatric haematology
- Doctors considering a career in paediatric haematology
- Paediatricians working in acute and general paediatric services
RSM members enjoy free access to over 200 expert-led events each year, including CPD-accredited learning.
