Join us for UMAX, our long running undergraduate maxillofacial conference which returns this spring for a day of distinctive lectures and practical hands-on workshops. This is an opportunity to hear from established oral and maxillofacial surgeons who will speak on wide ranging topics, showcasing the variety on offer in this specialty. The meeting also aims to provide those with an interest in maxillofacial surgery, including undergraduate students and those who are post dual qualification with the chance to meet with peers, trainees and senior consultants.

This years conference will provide an overview of head and neck oncology and reconstruction, cleft lip and palate treatment pathways, facial gender affirming surgery and surgical dermatology. There will be Consultant-led interactive surgical skills training in suturing, plating and virtual surgical planning as well as guidance on preparing for speciality training.

By attending this meeting, you will

  • Be introduced to the specialty and the wide-ranging sub-specialities covered in oral and maxillofacial training
  • Gain an overview of Cleft Lip and Palate services in the UK and treatment pathways
  • Gain an overview of Head and Neck Oncology and Reconstruction and learn about the opportunities for research
  • Gain an overview of Craniofacial Surgery and treatment pathways
  • Gain an increased awareness of new Advances in Head and Neck skin cancer
  • Develop practical skills in suturing and plating that will translate into clinical practice as a junior maxillofacial trainee
  • Develop an understanding of virtual surgical planning and its applications in oral and maxillofacial surgery

The UMAX poster prize will also be presented and awarded at the meeting. The competition is an opportunity to present primary research at a national conference. The prize is open to all trainees without dual qualification, including all undergraduate students as well as singly qualified and second-degree medical and dental students. The top three posters are awarded RSM Prize Certificates, and the top poster is also awarded a year’s membership of the RSM.
