Speaker's biography

Mr Alistair Laidlaw has been a consultant vitreoretinal surgeon at St Thomas’ and The Maidstone Hospital for 25 years. Prior to this he trained in Newcastle, Bristol and Moorfields.  He has a research interest in vitreo retinal surgery clinical outcomes.  As part of this he has performed two different randomised trials into vitrectomy for diabetic retinopathy. Perhaps unfashionably he is also interested in Clinical Vision Measurement and has developed easy to use software for that purpose. Alistair was one of the founders of the BEAVRS, retinal detachment and macular hole databases, these registries now contains outcome data on > 15,000 cases and have yielded seven publications to date. Previously honorary secretary and then President of Beavrs, Alistair is the current President  of Euretina.
