The British Society for Restorative Dentistry and the RSM bring you the Autumn webinars in Restorative Dentistry series.

This final webinar is devoted to trainees and will give them the opportunity to find out more about National Recruitment & the ISFE examination. It will also give trainees the opportunity to learn how to produce and present a good poster. 

The first part of the webinar will include presentations from: Matt Jerreat, Lead for National Recruitment, Sapna Patel, StR experience of National Recruitment, Dean Barker, Lead for ISFE and Angharad Truman, StR experience of ISFE. This will be followed by a Q&A session from the audience.

There will then be an oral presentation of the winning posters in the audit, research & clinical categories with questions from the audience and judges. The award of the W&H prize will be made to the author of the poster judged to be best overall. The winner of the undergraduate prize will then give their presentation.

Webinar aims include:

  • To give trainees opportunity to present at a national meeting
  • Inform trainees of the process of National Recruitment & ISFE
  • Share successful trainees experiences of National recruitment & ISFE

This webinar gives trainees the special opportunity to compete among their peers and develop integral communication and presentation skills and claim a prize for their clinical case presentation.

Miss Sapna Patel

Speciality Registrar in Restorative Dentistry

Speaker's biography

Sapna started off as a dental nurse before taking the plunge to do Dentistry. She graduated from Plymouth University Peninsula School of Medicine and Dentistry in 2016 and completed her dental foundation training in Essex. She then completed a number of dental core training posts in oral maxillofacial surgery and restorative dentistry in Essex and Somerset. She has recently relocated to London to complete her specialty registrar training in Restorative dentistry at Croydon University Hospital and Guys and St Thomas’ NHS Foundation Trust. Sapna has won a national prize encompassing all dental schools and represented UK in the Global Ceram.X case contest in Germany. She is a keen presenter with many posters and oral presentations at regional/national and international levels. Sapna is also an elected council member of the BSRD (British Society of Restorative Dentistry).

Dr Dean Barker

Consultant in Restorative Dentistry

Speaker's biography

Dean Barker qualified in 1996 and completed his specialist training in Restorative Dentistry in 2005. His doctorate was awarded by Newcastle University and he is a Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh. Dean has been a Consultant at Aberdeen Dental Hospital since 2006. He is currently the Clinical Lead for Restorative Dentistry and his practice includes all aspects of the specialty, including multi-disciplinary care. He has a keen interest in training and is a Fellow of the Faculty of Dental Trainers. He is an Honorary Clinical Senior Lecturer of the University of Aberdeen and has acted as an external examiner for universities in the UK and overseas. He has examined at all levels of undergraduate and postgraduate training and is the current Board Chair of the Intercollegiate Specialty Fellowship Examination in Restorative Dentistry.

Miss Angharad Truman

StR Restorative Dentistry, Bristol Dental Hospital

Speaker's biography

Angharad is a speciality registrar in Restorative Dentistry at Bristol Dental Hospital. She qualified in dentistry at Cardiff University in 2011. After vocational training in a busy general dental practice, she undertook DF2 training in Restorative Dentistry, Dental Public Health and Maxillofacial Surgery. During this year Angharad established her passion for Restorative Dentistry and so to further her experience she undertook a senior house officer job in Restorative Dentistry prior to obtaining her position as a specialist registrar. During her training Angharad has successfully completed a Certificate in Medical Education, Masters in Restorative Dentistry, Membership of Prosthodontics (Royal College of Surgeons Edinburgh) and most recently her Intercollegiate Specialty Fellowship Examination in Restorative Dentistry (Royal College Surgeons, Edinburgh). Her specialist interests include multidisciplinary care of patients with orthodontic-restorative needs and prosthodontics. Angharad has a passion for Restorative Dentistry and is the Honorary Secretary Elect of the British Society for Restorative Dentistry.

Dr Sibylle Schunemann

Specialty Doctor in Restorative Dentistry, University Hospitals Plymouth NHS Trust

Speaker's biography

Sibylle studied and graduated from the University of Witten/Herdecke in Germany before moving to the UK in 2006. She completed her Foundation Training year in a general dental practice in Devon and joined the Department of Restorative Dentistry in Derriford Hospital in Plymouth soon after. Sibylle now works as a Specialty Doctor in Restorative Dentistry in Plymouth as well as working in general dental practice. In the hospital she is involved in the dental care of head and neck cancer patients. Sibylle gained her doctorate from the University of Witten/Herdecke and holds the Diploma in Postgraduate Dental Studies from the University of Bristol.  She is currently studying for a Masters degree in restorative dentistry at Plymouth University.

Dr Shivakar Mehrotra

DCT 2, Restorative Dentistry, Birmingham Dental Hospital

Speaker's biography

Shivakar graduated from Leeds in 2018. He completed his Foundation Year in a practice in Twyford as part of the Winchester scheme. Since then, he has completed a split DCT1 post in Restorative Dentistry and Oral and MaxilloFacia Surgery at Cardiff and Prince Charles Hospital. He is currently working as a DCT 2 in Restorative Dentistry at Birmingham Dental Hospital.

Dr Salman Pirmohamed

General Dentist/Specialist Trainee in Prosthodontics, Eastman Dental Institute

Speaker's biography

Salman qualified from Kings College London in 2016 and has spent the last four years in general practice and completed a restorative DCT post at the Eastman Dental Hospital. Currently he spends half his week in general practice in Northwest London and has also begun his specialist training in Prosthodontics at the Eastman Dental Institute.

Dr Maeve Barry

General Dentist

Speaker's biography

Maeve is a newly qualified dentist having graduated with Honours from University College Cork in 2019. She began her working career in London, based in a busy mixed NHS/Private practice, where she gained invaluable experience in all aspects of general dentistry. Her time spent working in this fast-paced environment unearthed her love for treating and enabling those most fearful of the dental setting and breaking the stigma associated with dentistry for certain patient cohorts. In recent months, Maeve has returned home to her native Limerick and is working in 3Dental a large private practice in the city, where she continues to focus on making every patient’s dental visit a positive experience. Since graduation she has continued to expand on her existing knowledge and has completed both the Diploma of Primary Care Dentistry and the MFD exam from the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland. She is delighted to become a member of the BSRD and is excited to get involved with the various events over the coming year.
