Join the Royal Society of Medicine (RSM) Neurology Section for this webinar exploring the growing evidence on how plastics and endocrine-disrupting chemicals affect human health. Bringing together experts in environmental health, endocrinology, toxicology and public health, the session will examine the science of environmental exposures and their implications for clinical practice, prevention, health policy and healthcare sustainability.
Research linking plastics and endocrine-disrupting chemicals to reproductive disorders, metabolic disease and developmental effects continues to grow. Yet despite increasing scientific and public attention, these topics remain underrepresented in medical education. This webinar will provide an evidence-based overview of exposure pathways, health impacts and clinical relevance, helping healthcare professionals better understand an area of increasing importance to patient care and public health. The webinar is being delivered in collaboration with Dr Mark Harber, Special Adviser in Healthcare Sustainability and Climate Change at the Royal College of Physicians, and Sian Sutherland, founder of A Plastic Planet.
Why attend?
- Hear from internationally recognised experts in environmental health, toxicology and endocrine disruption, including Professor Leonardo Trasande, Dr Jane Muncke, Professor Paul Fowler and Professor Shanna Swan
- Gain an evidence-based overview of plastics, endocrine-disrupting chemicals and their impact on human health
- Explore how environmental exposures may influence reproductive, metabolic and developmental outcomes across the life course
- Understand common routes of exposure and their implications for prevention and patient care
- Put your questions directly to an expert panel during a dedicated discussion on clinical practice, public health, sustainability and policy
Aims of the event
- Provide an up-to-date overview of plastics and endocrine-disrupting chemicals and their impact on human health
- Explore the mechanisms of endocrine disruption and their clinical relevance
- Examine common exposure pathways and their implications for prevention, patient care and health policy
Learning outcomes
By attending this webinar, participants will be able to:
- Describe the mechanisms by which endocrine-disrupting chemicals affect hormonal systems and influence health across the life course
- Identify common sources and routes of exposure to plastics and related chemicals, and recognise their relevance to clinical practice
- Evaluate the clinical and public health implications of plastic-related exposures, including impacts on reproductive, metabolic and developmental health, and apply this knowledge to patient discussions and prevention strategies
Who should attend?
This webinar is suitable for:
- Consultants, GPs and SAS doctors
- Resident doctors and trainees
- Endocrinologists, paediatricians and obstetrics and gynaecology specialists
- Public health professionals
- Nurses, midwives, dietitians and allied health professionals
- Professionals with an interest in environmental health, prevention, sustainability and climate change
