About this event

  • Date and time Fri 7 Nov 2025 from 9:00am to 7 Nov 2025 at 5:30pm
  • Location Royal Society of Medicine
  • Organised by Laryngology and Rhinology, Otology

Join us for the first ENT event of the academic year for a day full of academic lectures on the latest, most relevant topics and the annual Presidential address, organised by both the Otology and the Laryngology & Rhinology Sections.

As the UK population ages, the burden of disease is shifting. By 2050, one in four people will be over 65. Those over 85 currently around 1.6 million will reach 2.6 million by 2036. With age comes an increased prevalence of chronic conditions: around 65% of those over 65 live with multiple health issues.

Older patients often face unique challenges from complex comorbidities and social factors to differing attitudes toward prognosis all of which demand a more tailored approach to care than younger patients typically require.

In our first meeting of the academic year, we introduce the new section presidents, including the Otology Presidential Address, and turn our focus to optimising care for older adults. Are we doing enough for our ageing patients? How should we adapt our strategies to meet their needs? We will explore key diseases common in this group and discuss how we can improve outcomes across the board.

By attenting the meeting, you will:

  • Take part in the section presidents handover and hear the Otology section presidential addresses
  • Discuss the factors that uniquely affect management decisions in older patients
  • Gain an update on the management of some of the more common conditions commonly affecting the older patient

These meetings offer the perfect opportunity for networking with colleagues and renowned speakers. Lunch is included when booking both the morning and afternoon meetings.
