Dermatology 2027 and the future and Dermatology clinical cases: January

Join the Royal Society of Medicine (RSM) Dermatology Section for the January meeting in the Dermatology: Clinical Cases 2026- 27 series. This half-day event, starting at an earlier time of 1:00pm, consists of two back-to-back sessions - a mini symposium exploring the latest advances and emerging challenges shaping dermatology practice, followed by a clinical cases session. Attendees may opt into either session or attend both.

Session 1: Dermatology 2027 and the Future 

As rapid developments in genetics, diagnostics, targeted therapies and artificial intelligence transform clinical practice, clinicians must also navigate emerging issues including the safe use of AI and the growing impact of health misinformation. This mini symposium brings together leading experts -  Professor Rubeta Matin, Dr Sarah Walsh, Professor John Ingram, Dr Ben Esdaile and Dr Ed Seaton -  to provide practical, up- to- date guidance on the advances and challenges shaping dermatology today and in the future.  

Learning outcomes  

By attending Session 1, participants will be able to:  

• Apply current evidence and guideline recommendations to the diagnosis and management of hidradenitis suppurativa and severe cutaneous drug reactions, including toxic epidermal necrolysis (TEN)  
• Describe recent advances in dermoscopy, including the role of UV dermoscopy and practical techniques to enhance clinical assessment  
• Recognise health misinformation in dermatology and implement evidence- based strategies to address it effectively in clinical practice  
• Evaluate the current evidence for the use of artificial intelligence in dermatology and its safe, appropriate integration into patient care. 

Session 2: Dermatology clinical cases  

A series of cases covering rare, unusual and atypical dermatological presentations, with audience voting and discussion following each case.  

Learning outcomes  

By attending Session 2, participants will be able to:  

• Describe the diagnosis and management of rare, unusual and atypical dermatological presentations  
• Evaluate recent advances in diagnostic techniques and treatment strategies in dermatology  
• Recognise the physical and psychological impact of skin conditions and apply a holistic approach to patient management. 

For in-person attendees, the day concludes with a drinks reception - an opportunity to network and continue discussions with colleagues and speakers.
