Paediatric & Adolescent Dermatology and Dermatology clinical cases: November

Join the Royal Society of Medicine (RSM) Dermatology Section for the second meeting in the Dermatology: Clinical Cases 2026-27 series. This half-day event, starting at an earlier time of 1:00pm, consists of two back-to-back sessions - a paediatric and adolescent dermatology mini symposium in collaboration with the RSM Paediatrics and Child Health Section, followed by a clinical cases session. Attendees may opt into either session or attend both.

Session 1: Paediatric and adolescent dermatology mini symposium  

Rapid advances in diagnostics, targeted therapies, and our understanding of the psychological impact of skin disease are transforming the care of children and young people with dermatological conditions. This mini symposium in collaboration with the RSM Paediatrics and Child Health Section brings together five leading experts - Professor Kerry Robinson, Professor Carsten Flohr, Professor Jane Ravenscroft, Professor Veronica Kinsler and Professor Jemma Mellerio - to deliver practical, evidence- based updates across key areas of paediatric and adolescent dermatology, from atopic dermatitis and pigmentation disorders to safeguarding, mental health and inherited skin conditions.  

Learning outcomes  

By attending Session 1, participants will be able to:  

• Identify child protection and safeguarding concerns relevant to dermatology and describe appropriate escalation pathways in both NHS and private practice  
• Apply up- to- date knowledge on the pathogenesis and management of atopic dermatitis, including the latest evidence on treatment strategies  
• Describe best practice approaches to assessing and supporting mental health in children and young people living with chronic skin conditions, including functional skin disorders  
• Evaluate the indications for genetic testing in paediatric skin disease and apply this knowledge to the clinical assessment and management of pigmentation disorders  
• Identify inherited conditions presenting in the skin and apply current classification and management approaches to epidermal differentiation disorders.  

Session 2: Dermatology clinical cases  

A series of cases covering rare, unusual and atypical dermatological presentations, with audience voting and discussion following each case.

By attending Session 2, participants will be able to:  

• Describe the diagnosis and management of rare, unusual and atypical dermatological presentations  
• Evaluate recent advances in diagnostic techniques and treatment strategies in dermatology  
• Recognise the physical and psychological impact of skin conditions and apply a holistic approach to patient management.  

For in-person attendees, the day concludes with a drinks reception - an opportunity to network and continue discussions with colleagues and speakers across dermatology and paediatrics.
