About this event
- Date and time Wed 9 Sep 2026 from 8:30am to 5:00pm
- Location Royal Society of Medicine
- Organised by Clinical Immunology and Allergy
Join us for this one-day meeting organised by the RSM Clinical Immunology and Allergy Section to understand how infection prevention and vaccination policies for immunocompromised patients are evolving, and what this means for UK clinical practice.
Immunocompromised patients face an increasingly complex risk of infection, driven by advances in immune-modifying therapies, changing infection patterns and rapidly evolving vaccination strategies. Preventing infection in these patients requires an integrated approach combining vaccination, antimicrobial prophylaxis, early recognition of risk and patient-centred education.
With a strong focus on UK guidance, policy and clinical practice, this study day brings together leading UK clinicians and researchers in immunology, infectious diseases, respiratory medicine and rheumatology to provide a practical, evidence-based update on infection prevention across a wide range of immunocompromised patient groups.
Why attend?
- Gain clear, practical insights on how UK guidance informs infection prevention, vaccination planning and prophylaxis in day-to-day care of immunocompromised patients.
- Update your knowledge on emerging infection patterns, including respiratory infections, fungal disease, RSV and COVID-19.
- Learn how to assess infection risk, optimise vaccination strategies and implement prevention approaches to patients with both primary and secondary immunodeficiency.
- Benefit from an integrated, multidisciplinary perspective by bringing together insights from immunology, infectious diseases, respiratory medicine and rheumatology to strengthen prevention-focused approaches.
Aims of the meeting:
- To bridge the gap between national guidance and real-world clinical decision-making.
- To address areas of uncertainty within immunocompromised care where evidence is evolving or inconsistent.
- To provide attendees with increased understanding of practical risk assessment, vaccination planning, the use of prophylactic therapies and multidisciplinary working across specialities.
Learning Outcomes
- Evaluate infection risk and patterns in immunocompromised patients, including those with primary and secondary immunodeficiency.
- Implement evidence-based vaccination and infection prevention strategies for high-risk patient groups, including splenectomised patients and those receiving immune-modifying therapies.
- Integrate national guidance and emerging preventive approaches, including new vaccines and monoclonal antibodies, into everyday clinical practice.
Who should attend?
This meeting is primarily aimed at:
- Consultants and higher speciality trainees in clinical immunology and allergy and infectious diseases.
- Clinicians with a defined specialist interest in the prevention and management of infection in immunocompromised patients.
This meeting is also of relevance to:
- Consultants and trainees in respiratory medicine, rheumatology, general internal medicine and paediatrics.
- Allied health professionals involved in the care of immunocompromised patients including specialist nurses, pharmacists and advanced clinical practitioners.
- Those involved in vaccination services, infection prevention, policy development or service planning.
RSM members enjoy free access to over 200 expert-led events each year, including CPD-accredited learning.
