About this event
- Date and time Thu 21 May 2026 from 9:00am to 5:00pm
- Location Royal Society of Medicine
- Organised by Cardiology
Hypertension is the leading modifiable risk factor for cardiovascular morbidity and mortality worldwide and remains central to cardiology practice. Its diagnosis and management is increasingly complex, particularly due to advances in blood pressure measurement, the development of new pharmacological and device-based therapies and the evolving evidence associated. This programme focuses on hypertension across the life course, hypertension-mediated organ damage, resistant and secondary hypertension and emerging therapeutic strategies to educate attendees on the intricacies of this area of cardiology.
Why attend?
- One-day course that provides a practical up-to-date overview of hypertension, aligned with the UK Cardiology Training Curriculum.
- Expert-led sessions discussing the translation of guidelines and trial evidence into everyday clinical practice.
- Opportunity for panel discussion with expert speakers.
Learning outcomes:
-
Apply current best practice of blood pressure measurement, including the role of emerging technologies.
-
Diagnose and manage hypertension in line with national and international guidance and in special situations, including pregnancy, young adults and older people.
-
Recognise and assess hypertension-mediated organ damage.
-
Develop a structured approach to resistant and secondary hypertension.
-
Understand the evidence for device-based and novel pharmacological therapies.
Who can attend?
- Cardiology trainees (ST3–ST7.)
- Internal medicine trainees with an interest in cardiology.
- Specialty trainees.
- Fellows.
