About this event
- Date and time Thu 23 Jul 2026 from 9:00am to 4:30pm
- Location Royal Society of Medicine
- Organised by Cardiology
Many trainees may feel underprepared for the management aspects of becoming a consultant with many cardiology training programmes lacking formal leadership management training; an essential aspect for cardiology registrars to be competent in. In addition to clinical and technical expertise, to be a successful consultant, you must be a functioning leader in the field and be able to navigate complex, fast-paced healthcare systems to improve patient outcomes.
Therefore, the RSM is hosting an in-person training event that will bridge the gap between clinical expertise and operational leadership whilst providing the tools necessary for managing resources, budgets and services effectively - vital for consultant-level practice.
Why attend?
- Hear from experts in the field who will facilitate effective mentorship to enable attendees to find a consultant job, understand recruitment principles and how to write a business case and procurement.
- Learn how to drive service improvement and manage teams with non-technical skills.
- Immersive and hands-on environment that offers the opportunity to network with peers and ask questions.
- Celebrate the winners of the Leadership and President's Prizes.
Learning outcomes:
- Understand the structure of NHS systems, recognising the potential differences between the four countries of the UK.
- Develop knowledge of the political, economic, social, technical, organisational and professional aspects that can impact the NHS's provision of service.
- Recognise the function, roles and structure of different healthcare systems as they apply to Cardiology.
Who can attend?
- Cardiology registrars from ST4 onwards.
- Trainees.
- Students.
RSM members enjoy free access to over 200 expert-led events each year, including CPD-accredited learning.
