History of the RSM

Feature of the month - April

Shown here is a portrait of Sir William Osler (1849 – 1919), founder and first President of the Society’s History of Medicine Section. It is a copy made in 1989 by Phillippa Abrahams of the portrait painted in Paris by Seymour Thomas in December 1908. It is generally considered to be the definitive portrait of Osler and the one best liked by its subject.
