Join us to learn more about antimicrobial resistance, the global health threat it poses, and the impact it will have on the NHS in the coming years.

In 2019, a UN report warned that unless urgent action was taken to address antimicrobial resistance (AMR), global deaths from drug-resistant infections could hit 10m a year by 2050 - the same total as cancer deaths in 2020 - and the economic impact could be similar to the 2008 global financial crisis.

This new programme from the Royal Society of Medicine, held during World Antimicrobial Awareness Week, will offer a clear picture of the current position with antimicrobial resistance and the challenges it presents to health services, and the action that is needed to tackle this creeping health crisis.

The episode will consist of one-on-one interviews and discussions featuring leading authorities on AMR including: Professor Dame Sally Davies, UK Special Envoy on Antimicrobial Resistance and former CMO, Dr Keith Ridge, Chief Pharmaceutical Officer, Professor Kat Holt, Professor of Microbial Systems Genomics and Co-Director of the LSHTM AMR Centre, and Dr Colm Leonard, Clinical Lead of NICE, DHSC and NHS England’s UK Antimicrobial Value Assessment/Reimbursement Project.

During this programme delegates will:

  • Understand the big picture threat of antimicrobial resistance, the health challenges it presents, and where things stand with new antibiotic treatments
  • Understand the impact AMR will have on the NHS in the coming years
  • Understand more about current initiatives underway to tackle antimicrobial resistance
  • Receive guidance around best practice to help avoid the further emergence and spread of drug-resistant infections

A CPD certificate with 3 CPD credits will be issued to those joining the webinar live as well as those who watch the recording afterwards. Certificates will be issued 7 days after the webinar to those who watch it live and after 30 days for those that watch the recording.

This webinar is available for on-demand viewing. The webinar recording will be available for registered delegates up to 60 days after the live webinar broadcast via Zoom. The link will be sent 24 hours after the webinar takes place.
