About this event

  • Date and time Thu 23 Oct 2025 from 8:30am to 5:00pm
  • Location Royal Society of Medicine
  • Organised by Paediatrics and Child Health

This interactive study day is designed to equip paediatric trainees with the practical skills and confidence needed to manage critically ill children. With a strong focus on real-world interventions delivered in Paediatric Intensive Care Units (PICU), High Dependency Units (HDU), and by critical care transport teams, you’ll gain the tools to provide high-quality care in acute settings.

Alongside clinical content, the day offers valuable guidance on pursuing a career in PICU or HDU, including application processes and what to expect from subspecialty and special-interest training. Sessions also explore the patient and family experience, deepening your understanding of holistic PICU care.

Why Attend?

  • Learn key lifesaving interventions in paediatric intensive care: ventilation, anaesthesia, inotropes, vasopressors, and extracorporeal therapies.
  • Get practical advice on applying for subspecialty and special-interest training in PICU and HDU.
  • Understand the patient and family perspective of intensive care.
  • Benefit from expert teaching and real-life case discussions.
  • Connect with peers and multidisciplinary professionals involved in the care of acutely unwell children.

Who Should Attend?

  • Paediatricians, anaesthetists, intensive care physicians, advanced nurse practitioners, MDT staff, students, newly qualified doctors, consultants, GPs, SAS doctors, and allied health professionals interested in paediatric critical care.

Aims:

  • Understand and apply key interventions used in paediatric intensive care.
  • Navigate the process for PICU and HDU subspecialty training applications.
  • Appreciate the patient and family experience in paediatric intensive care.

Join us for a day that will boost your clinical confidence, clarify your career path, and enhance your ability to care for critically ill children.
