This webinar will showcase the emerging technologies in orthopaedic surgery and surgical education. The purpose of this event is to understand the benefits of surgical innovation in increasing the precision of our operations and the impact it can have on upskilling trainee surgeons in relation to these operations. This event will have leaders in the field of surgical innovation present their work, followed by an in-depth panel discussion.  

During this webinar, you will:

Speaker's biography

Professor Fares Haddad is a Hip and Knee Reconstructive Orthopaedic and Sports Surgeon at University College Hospitals (UCH). He is Divisional Clinical Director of Surgical Specialties at UCH, and Director of the Institute of Sport, Exercise and Health at University College London (UCL). He has presented and published widely on key aspects of hip, knee and sports surgery and continues to lead a clinical research group with interests in hip and knee joint preservation after injury, the genetic influences on bone and tendon, prosthetic design and performance and outcomes measurement after hip/knee surgery and sports injuries. He is editor in chief of the Bone and Joint Journal and is on the editorial board of The Journal of Arthroplasty, Annals of the Royal College of Surgeons and Hospital Medicine. He has been elected as a Founding Fellow of the Faculty of Sports and Exercise Medicine.

Dr Nadine Hachach-Haram

Speaker's biography

Dr Nadine Hachach-Haram, BEM, the recipient of the British Empire Medal in the Queen’s Birthday Honours for 2018, an NHS surgeon, lecturer and clinical entrepreneur. Nadine drew on her passion for innovation, education and global surgery to found Proximie, an augmented reality platform that improves access to expert care and to scale clinical expertise. It enables clinicians to virtually ‘scrub in’ to any clinical setting from anywhere in the world. Dubbed by CNN the "Future of Surgery," Proximie has gone from strength to strength and won multiple awards including Foreign Press Association Science Story of the Year. Nadine has been selected as an Endeavor Entrepreneur, is a member of the Royal College of Surgeons’ Commission on the Future of Surgery, and Faculty at Singularity & Exponential Medicine. She is also the Clinical Lead for Innovation at Guys & St Thomas’ Hospital.

Dr Danny P Goel

Dr Danny P Goel, Clinical Associate Professor, The University of British Columbia Department of Orthopaedics, Chief Executive Officer and Co-Founder, Precision OS Technology

Speaker's biography

Dr Goel is a Clinical Associate Professor at the University of British Columbia (UBC) Department of Orthopedic Surgery. He is a member of several prestigious societies including the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons (AAOS) and the Canadian and American Shoulder Elbow Surgeons. He is an examiner for the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons and a member of the UBC Residency Training Committee. Dr Goel is fellowship-trained from both Western and Harvard University. He was the Canadian-French-Belgian-Swiss (CFBS) travelling fellow in 2016, has a Masters in Business Administration (MBA) from the University of Toronto’s Rotman School of Management and has nearly 50 publications crossing areas of skill acquisition, health access and novel surgical techniques. Dr Goel is also the Founder and CEO of a tech company creating software to address the limitations in surgical education to mitigate patient harm while improving patient care globally. His ongoing research focuses on addressing learning outcomes following the educational use of immersive technologies.
