about this event

In recent times, the political climate around abortion care has and is changing in the UK. New developments in abortion care, contraception and commissioning processes impact the way abortion and sexual health services are being delivered. It is important that health care professionals working in abortion, sexual health services and general practice are aware of and understand how these developments can impact on patient care and patient outcomes.

This conference will bring together a range of experts and health care professionals from all areas of Great Britain to provide a comprehensive overview of current and future concepts in abortion care.

My Body My Life

My Body My Life, a travelling exhibition, shows women tell their stories in a show of support for one another, demonstrating how vital it is to be able to have access and the option to abortion services.

Topics include:

  • Current best practice in abortion care
  • New approaches and developments in abortion care and how these impacts on care delivery
  • The impact of commissioning on abortion care and service delivery
  • The political climate around the legal framework for abortion care in the UK
  • Contraceptive strategies in hard to reach groups

Key speakers:

  • Diana Johnson, Labour MP Kingston & Hull, instrumental in bringing the abortion decriminalisation bill to Parliament.
  • Dr Nigel Acheson, Regional Medical Director and Higher Level Responsible Officer (South), NHS England, responsible for commissioning of abortion and sexual health services
  • Professor Sharon Cameron, NHS Consultant Gynaecologist and Professor (Hon) at the University of Edinburgh, internationally recognised expert in abortion care.
  • Mrs Su Everett, Senior Lecturer and Senior Nurse practitioner at the Royal College of Nursing, sexual health and contraception nursing expert.
