Martin Bailey qualified from the Royal Free Hospital School of Medicine in 1973. He trained in otolaryngology at the Royal National Throat, Nose & Ear Hospital and at Great Ormond Street Hospital for Children in London, and at the Sussex Throat & Ear Hospital in Brighton.

He became a Senior Consultant and Head of the Department of Paediatric Otolaryngology at Great Ormond Street Hospital for Children, before leaving the NHS in 2009 to concentrate on his private practices in Harley Street and at the Portland Hospital. He remained an Honorary Consultant at Great Ormond Street Hospital for Children until his retirement in 2017.

He was also Consultant Otolaryngologist at the Royal National Throat, Nose & Ear Hospital for 15 years before giving up his practice there to focus entirely upon paediatric otolaryngology.

Martin has published and lectured widely on various aspects of paediatric otolaryngology. He is a Trustee and Executive Chairman of the TWJ Foundation.
