Medical Students and Student Associates

The RSM provides a relaxed forum in which to meet, mix and network with doctors, vets, dentists, scientists and healthcare professionals in every stage of their careers, as well as other students and trainees.

Students join us from all over the healthcare sector to enhance their specialist knowledge, make use of a London base and quiet library with free printing, photocopying and study rooms, as well as the expanding online information, and learn more about how other disciplines interact with their own.

The RSM is looking for active and dedicated healthcare students, as well as medical, dental and veterinary students, to be part of our growing Student Membership – benefits to you will include:

Access to meetings and conferences at member rates

Students are welcome to attend almost all of our 400 academic meetings held each year, many of which are free to students.

There are ample opportunities to further your knowledge in your own field of interest and related specialties, as well as to discuss topical issues with qualified members of the medical and healthcare community.You will receive a Certificate of Attendance at these meetings which allows for reflective comments, so you can build up your portfolio.

One of the largest post-graduate medical libraries in Europe

Student members have full access to the RSM Library, onsite printing and photocopying facilities; and cost-effective document delivery services – perfect for research, intercalated degrees and quiet study, with full borrowing rights. New private study rooms are available, along with 22 PC workstations with health-related databases.

Online access to seven medical databases and over 500 full text ejournals

RSM Membership allows you remote access to many online resources. You can search Medline, Embase, CAB Global Health, DH-Data, AMED (Allied and Complementary Medicine), the Cochrane Library and the King's Fund database. Our literature searchers can also search a range of other databases in your behalf.

Your membership also allows you access to over 500 full text e journals, all through the members' only section of our website.

Be represented on the Student Members Group by your school RSM student representative

Giving you and your place of study a voice in the RSM. You can apply to be a student representative and get involved in organising both academic and social events and the services provided to RSM Student Members.

Socialise with other medical and healthcare students

The RSM provides excellent opportunity to meet students from colleges, universities and medical schools across the UK and staff in medical disciplines relevant to your own area of interest.

You can also enjoy the use of the bar, buttery, restaurant and common room – perfect for a quick drink or bringing friends or family for a meal.

Attend student specific events

These include a large careers fair, research presentation prize evenings, debates, meetings and revision sessions, including the 'Becoming a House Officer' day, preparing you for your first week on the wards.

Gain recognition through RSM Student Prizes

The RSM awards £60,000 worth of prizes each year. Including 27 prizes specifically open to students. Awards are for research or presentations. Many of the cash prizes are travel or elective bursaries.

The acclaimed Journal of the Royal Society of Medicine is available for free online. RSM Members also receive access to discounts from Foyles Bookstore, Oxford University Press, Blackwell's Publishing and Elsevier
