Project 2012
Project 2012 reflects the Society's passion for providing the finest educational facilities. The key development, potentially timed for Summer 2012 and subject to funding, is a new lecture theatre. This will be the Society's third lecture theatre and will feature:
- 80 seats
- intimate atmosphere
- High Definition projection, film and recording
- specialist lighting
- steep rake to provide excellent sight lines
- gentle ramp for disabled access
- sophisticated audio visual equipment including projection screen and two LCD screens
The location for the new lecture theatre will be on the ground floor adjacent to the entrance at 1 Wimpole Street. The lecture theatre will be built within the Wimpole Room (formerly the MSD room), with the intricate ceiling coffers retained and an oak arch for the stage area.
Project 2012 will also include two new meeting rooms on the first floor. This redevelopment is based on changing the use of the Domus Lounge (opposite the entrance to the Library) and creating two brand new meeting rooms, which can be converted into one larger room. New washrooms will also be built in this location for members, guests and visitors. To provide additional informal meeting space for members a new floor will be created directly in front of the lifts on the first floor - covering the void above the ground floor foyer.
Recently completed facilities
- training suite on the lower ground floor
- three seminar rooms on the lower ground floor
- private dining room for 22 guests on the ground floor
