Information for other libraries

Within the UK access to the stock of other Libraries is routed through the British Library Document Supply Centre (BLDSC). Direct Inter Library loans supply is a service by which the Royal Society of Medicine (RSM) can obtain material for other libraries which the BLDSC does not hold. Libraries from across the country are directed to the RSM as a possible source for material. The RSM Library is one of the largest postgraduate biomedical lending libraries in Europe. Our collection exceeds half a million volumes which dates back to the 15th Century. We subscribe to over 2,100 current journals, including titles from around the world and covering all aspects of biomedical science. Our material includes books, journals, tracts, manuscripts, lectures, case notes and correspondence. If the BLDSC does not hold a particular journal or volume then other Libraries can use us to supplement the missing parts of their collection.

What can you obtain?

The RSM Library can supply a full photocopying service (within copyright) and will lend a considerable percentage of its holdings except for:

Copyright

A request for a copy of a journal article or book chapter must be accompanied by a declaration that you hold a signed copyright form from your user (a handwritten signature is needed to comply with copyright legislation as electronic signatures are not yet valid). As the requesting library you must ensure you collect this form on behalf of your user. Whilst you do not have to supply us with a copy you must state that you have done this and will keep for 6 years.
