- University of Liverpool - Institute of Infection and Global Health
Dr Dean Everett, from the Department of Clinical Infection, Microbiology and Immunology, and collaborators, have been awarded $1.5 million from the Bill & Melinda Gates foundation to study Streptococcus pneumoniae serotype 1. Dr Dean Everett said ''Streptococcus pneumoniae serotype 1 is one of the biggest causes of pneumococcal disease in sub-Sahara Africa and accounts for a quarter of infections in Malawi".
